Im not sure if this is a sign of me having grown up in England or simply times having changed, but does anyone else feel like showing up unannounced at a family member’s / friend’s house has become socially unacceptable?
When I was young, we would regularly drop in on family and friends, especially if we were in the area, having been somewhere else nearby. We would stay for 30-60 minutes, have a cuppa and a catch-up and then be on our way. Similarly, others would drop in on us and it’d always be nice to see people unexpectedly and just catch up with them briefly.
Today though, I feel like doing this would be considered rude. In a world where schedules are fully booked, I think people take offense to you imposing on their time.
Is it just me? Is it an American thing, or is this happening in the UK as well? Do you wish (like me) that it happened more often? (Friends and family: feel free to drop in on us if you’re ever in the area)
