Some of the tasks that I’m often asked to do as a web developer are fairly menial and may only take a few minutes, but there’s a very good reason that you shouldn’t expect a bill for 5 minutes of my time.
Running a business includes various overhead activities, such as sorting through and responding to emails, tracking time and producing invoices, marketing, scoping and pre-positioning for projects and fielding questions from clients.
All of this work on your project – which is perhaps unseen by you – is needed in order to successfully execute the project and thus the effort expended is directly attributable to the project.
So all of those emails back and forth getting usernames and passwords for hosting accounts and admin logins, explaining charges on your invoices and producing those invoices all take an appreciable amount of time.
And this is why, even though I know exactly what the issue is with your site and it’s only going to take me 5 minutes to fix it, I realistically can’t work on it for anything less than 1 hour.
